Ohio Turnpike toll cost for RVs and motorhomes

What an RV pays in 2026, why the "Class A" naming is unrelated to the Turnpike's own Class 1-8 system, and how to figure out whether your specific setup with toad or trailer falls into Class 2, 3 or 4.

Quick answer: A motorhome of any size with two axles and no toad is Class 2: $33.75 E-ZPass / $47.00 cash full route westbound. Add a towed vehicle and you become Class 3 or 4 depending on the toad's axle count: $40.50 or $50.75 full route westbound E-ZPass.

How the Turnpike classifies your RV

Ohio uses height over the first two axles (the 7'6" threshold) plus total axle count; it does not care about the RV industry's Class A / B / C naming. For RVs over 7'6" tall, the toll class simply equals the axle count:

  • Two axles, under 7'6" tall: Class 1. Some small Class B campervans (Mercedes Metris-based, low-roof ProMaster) qualify if they retain stock roof height. Rare in practice.
  • Two axles, 7'6" or taller: Class 2. The vast majority of motorhomes land here regardless of length. A 24-foot Sprinter conversion and a 40-foot Newmar diesel pusher are both Class 2 if neither tows.
  • Three axles total (tall): Class 3. A tag-axle coach, or a 2-axle motorhome with a single-axle trailer behind.
  • Four axles total (tall): Class 4. Most common toad configuration: a two-axle motorhome flat-towing a two-axle car or SUV. Also a motorhome with a two-axle utility trailer.

Cost by route, Class 2 motorhome (no toad)

With a toad: Class 3 cost

A tall 3-axle combination (tag-axle coach, or a 2-axle motorhome with a single-axle trailer) is Class 3. Same routes:

Class 4 with a two-axle toad behind a two-axle motorhome adds another step up (full-route westbound E-ZPass $50.75 / cash $65.75). Use the calculator for the exact figure.

E-ZPass for RV owners

The percentage saving on E-ZPass is similar for RVs as for cars (roughly 30%), but the absolute dollars are bigger because the base fare is higher. The full-route westbound Class 2 saving is $13.25 per crossing ($47.00 cash minus $33.75 E-ZPass), so a single round trip covers most of the $25 deposit plus $3 activation and two clear it comfortably. For a Class 4 motorhome-with-toad it is faster still: $15.00 saved per westbound crossing.

For RV owners who travel multiple states the broader value of E-ZPass is interoperability. The same Ohio Turnpike transponder works on the Pennsylvania Turnpike (where the saving versus cash for Class 2 is even larger, around 40%), New York Thruway, all E-ZPass member-state facilities. For multi-state RV trips, E-ZPass is almost always the right call regardless of Ohio-only economics.

Service plazas for RV travellers

The Ohio Turnpike has 14 service plazas, all of which accept RVs. Key practical notes for RV owners:

  • Fuel availability. Service plazas sell diesel and gasoline. Diesel pumps accommodate large rigs but are not truck-island-style; expect modest car-style islands with high-flow nozzles.
  • Overnight parking. The Commission permits a 10-hour rest stop in designated truck / RV areas at each plaza. No hookups, no dump stations at most plazas. Use this for sleep, not for full camping.
  • Propane. Not sold at Ohio Turnpike service plazas. Plan refills at off-Turnpike RV parks or commercial facilities.
  • Pet relief areas. All plazas have fenced pet areas, typically away from the main fuel islands.
  • EV charging. Class B campervans built on EV platforms can use the limited DC fast charging available at select plazas through the Commission's charging partner network.

See service plaza directory for the full plaza-by-plaza list.

FAQ

How much is the Ohio Turnpike toll for an RV in 2026?+
A Class B motorhome stays Class 1 if it is under 7'6" tall; rate is $0.073/mi E-ZPass, $19.00 full route westbound. A taller Class B or any Class C is Class 2 ($33.75 full route westbound E-ZPass). An RV towing a vehicle (a 'toad') is Class 3 or 4 depending on the toad's axles ($40.50 or $50.75 full route westbound E-ZPass).
What class is a Class A motorhome on the Ohio Turnpike?+
Class A motorhomes are essentially always over 7'6" tall and therefore at least Class 2 by Ohio Turnpike classification (despite the unrelated 'Class A' RV naming). For vehicles over the 7'6" threshold the class equals the axle count: a 2-axle Class A towing nothing is Class 2; a tag-axle (3-axle) coach is Class 3.
What if I'm towing a car behind my motorhome?+
A flat-towed car behind a 2-axle motorhome adds two axles, putting you at a high 4-axle vehicle: Class 4 ($50.75 full route westbound E-ZPass). A single-axle utility trailer behind a 2-axle motorhome is a high 3-axle vehicle: Class 3 ($40.50 full route westbound E-ZPass).
Are RV tolls higher on the Ohio Turnpike than the Pennsylvania Turnpike?+
Generally no: the Ohio Turnpike ranks among the cheaper per-mile toll roads in the region. A Class 2 motorhome pays $33.75 E-ZPass for the full 241-mile westbound Ohio crossing. Pennsylvania Turnpike per-mile rates run meaningfully higher for comparable vehicles, though its classification bands differ, so compare your specific rig on each operator's calculator.
Can I park overnight at an Ohio Turnpike service plaza in an RV?+
Yes, but with restrictions. The Ohio Turnpike service plazas allow overnight rest stops for trucks and RVs in designated areas. There are no hookups, dump stations are limited, and length-of-stay rules apply (typically 10-hour limit per Commission regulations, with enforcement varying by plaza). For full RV park overnight, the better option is a private campground off the Turnpike.
Do RVs pay extra for length on the Ohio Turnpike?+
Not at RV lengths. Classification combines height over the first two axles and axle count; length only matters at the extreme, where any vehicle over 90 feet is Class 8. A 22-foot Class B campervan and a 45-foot Class A motorhome pay the same Class 2 rate if both have two axles and are 7'6" or taller. Trailers behind add classes via axle count.
